what does it all mean?
For me, dance is a way to find knowledge, inner integrity and a deeper connection with ‘the self’' and people around you. The former statement proved to be the decisive factor for choosing dance as a career path. I found out that dance functioned as a significant medium for me to face my limits and to subsequently expand them. Dance is an ongoing journey, it is a continuous process; I experience it to be like a relationship – a love/hate relationship that you cannot really escape from. If I gain insights in life, it inevitably alters my perception and experience of dance or my body and vice versa.
Over the last few seasons I acknowledged that the body is actually the most complex technology that exists on earth today. Before I started dancing so intensively, I believed that the mind was an entity that needed to be controlled and that consequently, through governing the pathways of our twirling and spinning mind, total body control could be achieved. However, over the years my perception regarding this statement has significantly changed, as I learned that our body is much more intelligent than our rational mind (or the thoughts that are randomly wandering through) and that subsequently body awareness naturally creates awareness in our brains, which brings us to a deeper state of being.
Furthermore, during this ongoing journey, I feel so lucky to have been surrounded with such beautiful and kind people, who constantly created a nurturing, enriching environment that provided safe grounds for growth, not only in terms of artistry but also on a personal level. This growth e.g. entailed how to communicate and collaborate in a genuine and effective way, how to accept the present moment, how to be flexible and tolerant towards others, how to soften our ego, how to listen, how to be a solution seeker instead of a problem seeker, how to be open to whatever comes your way and make something out of it, how to approach your body in a honest and healthy way and finally, how to take the responsibility. Also, it allowed space to work on challenges such as perfectionism, judgement, exactingness etc.
Considering the above mentioned aspects, there is still so much to explore in the dance scene and in the world in general; there many unanswered questions, mysteries waiting to be solved, possibilities eager to be taken and dots screaming to be connected. Therefore, I wish my future to be like this; constantly searching, sometimes finding and always being amazed by life itself.
